Real moonshine is illegal (not tax stamped); so the stuff in stores is not really moonshine - just high proof alcohol and legal. Around here it is available in mason jars and flavored as “apple pie”, “peach pie”, “strawberry pie” and a few others, as well as white lightening (no flavor, high proof). It generally seems to be around 120 proof but you can find it higher. Apple Pie is good over vanilla ice cream.

I do know the difference. I was sort of making a general statement about how many of the distillers are now making flavoured whisk(e)y and IMHO it's sacrilege.....it's like chocolate martini's and such....what they are is panty drinks not martini's, and the favoured whisk(e)y is a liqueur. Just my two cents....end of Rant.
