Ben fuel door locking pin warranty claim denied due to "forced usage"

Hi,

I have a general question about a case of denied warranty work.

So I have a X1 which is still under factory warranty and I just had a free oil change maintanance done at a dealer near work.

The fuel door has been acting up lately maybe due to a few weeks of icy weather. So I also have them take a look by the way and let me know if they can repair it under warranty. The dealer found out that the locking mechanism is worn and the pin on the fuel door is bend. They refused to fix these under warranty as they classify this as a "forced usage".

After a few days, the fuel door does not shut anymore, because now the pin has probably fallen off during driving.

I am planning to go another dealer but should I? With my key fob info, would all BMW dealer in the area now use the data from the first dealer as an excuse to avoid such warranty work?

It would be something cheap and simple for the dealership but can cost $200~$500 if I pay out of pocket.

So do anyone know whether dealers are linked through key hub data with every small detail?
