Hmmm, I can't say I regret getting rid of any car I sold. I have steadily moved onward and upward with subsequent purchases. I was very fond of my 06 GTI, but I don't wish I still owned it and I don't see buying another. I also haven't owned a lot of really fun cars---I've slowly progressed through vehicles. My current setup is the nicest group of cars I've ever owned.
Will I regret selling the e92 when the inevitable happens? Maybe. The lack of options makes it quite rare. And a really nice, driver-centric vehicle.
