Not exactly. Hitler apparently delayed the attack by 2 days, likely to demonstrate to his subordinates that he was chief in command. By the time the attack resumed 2 days later, the window to completely massacre the Allied troops had closed. So, it wasn't that Hitler was magnanimous or sporting; it was an internal power play.

I don't know if the movie will mention it or not, but IMO it doesn't detract from the story. The history of wars is replete with questionable strategic decisions based on political motives.
