If you buy a Shelby Mustang GT500, it’s understood you love speed. With 760 horsepower on tap from the 5.2-litre supercharged V8, it’s sure to be a handful.

Perhaps too much of a handful for most of the folks who might put one in their garage, we dare say, but Ford has a plan to fix that.

Buyers of the 2020 GT500 will receive a free driving instruction course at Ford’s Performance Racing School at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.
.

The course will feature road course and drag strip training, and drivers will be taught about cornering, braking, launching and using the vehicle’s various drive modes to their fullest extent.

Ford will provide the vehicles, so owners won’t need to worry about bringing their own; they will have to find a way to the track by themselves, however.

“With its supercar-level powertrain, the all-new Shelby GT500 takes Mustang to a performance level once reserved only for exotics,” said Dave Pericak, Ford director of enterprise product line management.

“We’ve set a new standard among American performance cars with our most powerful street-legal V8 to date, plus the quickest-shifting transmission ever in a Mustang for all-out precision and speed.”

Pericak calls the course, GT500 Track Attack, “absolutely essential in helping owners understand how to get the most out of their cars.”

Along with the GT500 training, there will also be a second day of pure driving, if owners wish to indulge themselves with a base model Mustang GT.
I guess there were too many youtube videos of Mustangs crashing at meets
