Yes, its going into a lower gear before I want it to. I wonder what happens on the other side, does it shift just below redline? I have not tried this.

As long as you are moving you do not need to apply the brake to shift out of neutral. That restriction only seems to be enabled when you are stopped. I haven't tried this on my 335i but I played around with it quite a bit a loner 328.

I think 1000 rpm is too high for a downshift. I still feel significant engine braking and the engine doesn't appear to be near where it would loose power (lugging). Maybe some of you MT guys can let me know.
