Had a 2012 DBA GTR, FBO (Full Bolt On's), Flex-Fuel (E85) for ~5 years. Traded it for the 2019 M5 Comp. More similarities living with each on a daily basis then you might realize, but also some substantial differences.

Both are large vehicles (GTR is 185″ L x 75″ W x 54″ H ~3900lbs, F90 M5 is 195.47" L x 75" W x 58" H ~4250 lbs), so they each have quite a bit of road presence and feel substantial (can't hide that much weight). They will both eat through tires in under 15K miles. Around a track the GTR feels lighter then it is but is prone to understeer. Haven't had the opportunity to track the M5 yet.

Performance is very similar as well in stock guise (FBO GTR's run 10.2 - 10.6 @ 130MPH, stock however is ~11.1 @120MPH, in line with the F90), however the way they deliver that power is different. Off the line the GTR is absurd in the way it puts down traction, however it runs out of steam above ~100MPH (again, stock). The M5 is far better at building speed above 100MPH (as evidenced by the trap of the M5 at 126-128MPH vice ~120 for the stock GTR). The brakes on each (non ceramic) are both excellent, but again because of the weight of the vehicles will largely be eaten through quickly (under 30k).

The GTR also felt far more visceral then the M5. Cabin noise, suspension harshness, and the way the DCT shifts (and is rear mounted) all contribute to a vehicle that feels like a sports car, albeit a heavy one.

In short, if your looking for a fun, track-day like car, the GTR can't be beat. The M5 is no slouch at the track to be sure, but if your looking for something more visceral the M5 is not it. I moved on because I was looking for something far more comfortable and at least as fast, my track days are largely over.

Hope this helps.
