And definitely, if I were going the tuning route, there's absolutely no reason you'd go with this shady CL company over something tried and true like ESS.

I think that is a big part of it.
The M variant was basically built from the parts bin.
Also, with it being a low volume unit, it wouldn't have had the R&D budget of other cars.
