On a more serious note, just keep up with the maintenance. I lift the hood on my vehicles once a week just to check fluid levels, and look for leaks or issues. Many times cars will give you warning signs before something goes wrong. Since you just bought the car, I'd say changing all the fluids would be a good place to start so you have a baseline.

Always do maintenance first and mods later. Doesn't matter how much HP your car makes if you're on the side of the road because a coolant hose broke.
