BMWs as we know them was what differentiated them from the others and made them desirable to me. My E84 X1 has 50/50 weight distribution. Now that the differentiation is going away there is no reason not to look elsewhere. There are lots of front-drive-based, 4wd, smallish SUVs out there. I still love my BMWs but after 15 years and 8 BMWs its no longer a given that my next purchase will be a BMW.

BTW, I do kind of like the look of this X2.
