My first guess would be a fuel pressure sensor sending a bad reading. Second guess would be a fuel pump, fuel filter, or similar supply problem.

Given that it went away, I'd lean toward the sensor. They can be flaky, across brands. Fortunately, they are quite easy to replace. I'd have the dealer (or any shop with a BMW-aware tool) scan it, hopefully there are codes to provide breadcrumbs.
Thanks. I have an adapter coming in the mail today that will allow me to hook up to the diagnostics. Do you think this is something I can check with BimmerCode?
