The current X1 was a very polarizing car. I personally love it for its unique character and near-awkward proportions. Still one of the last great BMW drives in the fleet.

I'll hold final judgment until I see it and drive it but the following suggest picking up a late-model E84 or keep what you've got.

- FWD bias
- down on power
- taller
- shorter wheelbase (it's already a tad edgy at speed)
- no ZF
- it looks like every other X vehicle and shares some Hyundai lines in the rear 1/3

This is clearly a market segment move, the modern way of this brand. Gone is the unique, sporty niche vehicle, in comes the mass appeal. Offerings like this make my eyes wander to other brands. If that's all I get, mine as well look at (insert other lux brand). Where previously, nothing else compared.

But I'm the minority. I recognize there are far more people who previously thought the X1 was an ugly shoe on wheels who will now pay some attention.
