First, you should ignore the haters. Subjective / religious opinions are just that. The reviews on the X2 are good. If you like the look of the X2 and you're okay with it being a bit smaller than the X1, then the only negative is that it's a bit more expensive than the X1. Oh well.
I've driven both X1 and X2. (I got to autocross an X2.) The X2 handles substantially better, which it should because it's shorter, lower and has more performance oriented suspension. You should drive both and then make up your mind.
As for horsepower, more is always better. (If more is better, then too much is just right.)
