I would counter and point to the fact that many Cartier watches do have an in house movement these days, for a me a Cartier watch is a proper watch.
You cannot compare Gucci/Burberry time pieces to Cartier whatsoever, possibly the worlds finest jeweller and responsible for creating one of the first modern wrist watches.
There are also plenty of "in house" movements that aren't as "in house" as you may think.
