When I was in the Navy, I was stationed aboard USS Nimitz. When we would come into Pearl Harbor, they would ask for volunteers to "man the rails" in our dress uniforms. Every time, I would volunteer. I would also make sure I would stand on the port side of the flight deck so I could see the Arizona Memorial. They would bring us to attention, we'd offer a hand salute, and they would play Taps as we went past. It was very moving.

I'm not in this photo because it was taken after I got out. But, this is what part of the flight deck would look like when we would man the rails. There was a ring around the entire flight deck.
