I wait for the noisy valve to stop and that in turn also lowers the rpm...it sort of settles and very noticeable. It only takes about a minute and then I drive off under 3k until it's at operating temps.
Edit: basically what CanautM3 said. If I just drive off the car lunges into second. The colder it is the longer it takes to settle is what I noticed.
Edit 2: just realized this is the F8X forum, doh! I have no idea if same applies to this car.
