After seeing pics of the X4 prototype, it is obvious first pic is of a X2 prototype.
Mules are new platforms/architectures hidden beneath body of a "donor" vehicles - often body of previous version of that car. Typically without camo.
Prototypes are vehicles manufactured in limited numbers in a prototype shop - typically 10-25.
About 90% true to production vehicle - hence camo.
