You should also advise them to check their BMW logo carefully - if it has the blue segments in the upper left and lower right quadrants, then it could be a counterfeit - genuine BMWs have the blue in the upper right and lower left.
BMW NZ did that one April Fools Day in NZ - took out a full page ad warning people about counterfeit BMW - they got hit with 1000's of calls from upset owners that they had been sold a fake BMW
