No I am not going to bother testing the 1.8i.
The reason I am going for the 1.8d is very similar to your own, I have an Audi A3 1.4TFSI and I would appreciate the extra 10 bhp for overtaking.
In some of my earlier posts there was a respondent from Greece who drove a 1.8i so you could try to get his opinions.
