What retaining clamp? If you're referring to the door flap that covers the 2 filters, you can remove it completely to get more room. Once you unlatch it you have to push upwards and it'll pop off the hinges. If you're talking about the trim piece that covers the air filter area, it pops off once you remove the screw. Just need to pull outwards.
