I have never looked into OE BMW units, but in one of my past VW cars I swapped out for one as they were not offered.
I bought a Gentex model online, which is one of the main creators for most dimming mirrors around the world. That car did not have homelink buttons so I got a model with them. I ran the wiring into the headliner and tapped into the power from the lights on top. All in all, a pretty simple process. BMW OE parts tend to be pretty pricy. Going Gentex direct may or may or not be a cost savings.
