People are brand loyal to cars for one reason or another whether is be cost to maintain/cost to buy/the "badge". I find brand loyalty has little to do with ones ability to afford a certain car but ones priorities. (ex, brother-in-law who makes $250k+ yr, drives a $15k pickup to/from his 20 min commute to work). Having a "nice car" isn't a priority in his life so he's not brand loyal cause he'll buy whatever is cheap and has enough room to drop in a deer.
