Never been vegan but I have played with vegetarianism as a way to keep my weight down. However at one point I got a nasty case of arrhythmia which was traced to an iron deficiency. I concluded that I probably was not as careful about covering gaps in my diet so I mixed some animal proteins in.
The result was the 3,2,1,Zero diet which I've done for years.
Basically it's 3 parts veggies
2 parts simple carbs
1 part animal protien
Zero sugar. (although that's really not possible I try to never exceed 11 g)
Now that I'm old and don't care as much I follow the diet but drink beer on Sundays. Not much of a weight shift occurred as long as I keep the beer drinking to one day a week.
