Twas ever thus though ? I remember in the F10, 535d was a further £5k more expensive than the 530d. Fortunately when I bought, there was a much bigger discount on the 535d.

My heart bleeds for you guys....in Ireland the difference between the respective MSports is near €15k ( and you can add another €15k if you want a 540i, whereas in the UK the petrol is only marginally more expensive than the bigger diesel ).
But here's the rub, I once read that the difference in manufacturing costs for tge extra two cylinders is only €500.... If that's tries, it's probably less now with the new generation of modular engines.
And over here at least there is a very small premium for the 330d versus the 320d.
