Yes it was mentioned in the mini too.. I would say it could be a programmed improvement, but BMW has not said a thing. Like rounderman said in his old 335 it was similar. On my n54 days I reflashed my transmission to a different program which was awesome.. and then I also got myself a JB4 tuner, which was more awesome.
I'll tell you right now, however, that the JB4 does not fix this problem. The pedal tuner as mentioned helps a bunch, but ultimately I always drive it in sport mode too. I've learned to try to roll into the throttle fast but steady, and no more punching it. The car seems to have learned (or my foot) to behave nicely now.
