So, 255/40/18's all around match the BMW spec for winter wheels (the OEM 640M's) but those are 8.5 inches and 9 inches wide. I'm still struggling to get any real intel on whether they will work well on 513M's which are 9 inches and 10 inches wide.

Have you mounted a 255/40/18 on an 18x10 rear wheel? This is a good fit? Thanks...
Trying to figure out the same question myself. I have the 19" M359 wheels 9x10. I know that the 255 35 19 can be mounted on the 10" rear within factory recommendations (8.5-10" is recommended), however wondering if the stretch ruins traction in fresh snow. Have tried to find the answer on different forums/websites but haven't found anything. If it is a problem, I will get the 265 35 19 which should be ok. Haven't made up my mind and there's plenty of time to make a decision before snowfall.

Anyone have insight into stretched rear winter tires and how traction will be effected relative to the front non-stretched tire?
