Ferrari felt that he could deliver adequately for the past 10 years. Luca is partly credited with helping the return of Ferrari to form in 2000 (their first drivers championship in 21 years).

We would be much more efficient if every human endeavor is driven by sound logic and reasoning but it just isn't and Ferrari understands this, why else would they try to bring back an injured and out of form Schumacher back?
