X2 Windshield Chips

Bought a demo X2 with 5k miles. Amazing car, but after about a week, I cleaned the windows and notice crazy amounts of pitting on the windshield. I took it back to the dealer and they said they won't cover it under factory warranty, especially since it was a demo. Of course, I could have it replaced for around $1600... no thanks. I was also warned not to use Safelite, etc. ($600) due to sensor calibrations, warranty, etc. I've never had a car with pits like this even @ high miles. It seems BMW uses a softer glass in order to meet European Head Impact Requirements. I also drove a "loaner" X2 today and it had about 1/2 the amount of pits at 2k miles. Seems like it's a consistent and big issue. Anyone else have this? Any suggestions on solutions? Is it possible to get a US made harder glass replacement? Or do I just live with it until my next major window crack/ rock repair?

Looking for suggestions.
