The brake rotors (discs) can be resurfaced if they're in good condition and they still have sufficient thickness to them, however nowadays most places will simply replace them because the cost of new rotors is relatively low. I have done many brake replacements myself and just order new rotors each time.

You will need to replace the sensors as they're meant to be one time use. If the sensor was tripped and the car is telling you it needs new brake pads, then the sensor will need replacing.

Most competent independent shops should be able to handle doing brake pads and rotors on the X1. If you have a place you trust and have had good experiences with in the past definitely take it there versus a dealer. The warning can be reset easily from inside the car and again, most competent shops will be able to do it.
