You are indeed correct...all the "tricks"(like defaulting the driving mode to ECONO and making mode not part of the driver's profile that could be set to your preference) are aimed at improving MPG so BMW can sell higher powered gas guzzlers for high profit. If you look at the owners' manual you will find that oils up to 0W40 are approved for use in the B48 engine....I'm running that weight in warmer months, since it can get seriously hot here in the summer time.
