It's hard to say for sure, but they're certainly close. LC is going to manage things a little more carefully than your right foot can, mainly including not completely smoking the transmission with a 6K rpm input. Ok, it only slightly smokes it. It does other things too, who knows for sure.
One big advantage of the brakestand is that it's so easy to do. I really hate the car-in-sport, trans-in-sport, traction-control-off, and something I probably don't remember before giving it the ol' two feet. Just GO already!
