I don't know how you can say it doesn't cause any delay....the engine is off and it has to start after you press the throttle. It even annoys my wife, who is rarely annoyed by anything (except me). The trending solution is the hybrid where starting off is always handled electrically, if the mode calls for combustion it can be taken care of during. |
It starts when you slightly release the brake. The engine is running by the time you hit the throttle. That's why an earlier poster mentioned that you can feather the brake a bit to keep the engine going while you are stopped.
From what I can tell most people find it annoying simply because they are aware it is happening. I've seen many people drive these kinds of cars and be oblivious to the fact that it is even happening, the car goes the same when they push the gas.
