I've always driven with it off since I find it annoying and I assumed stand still engine on would have minimal impact on fuel economy. But maybe it is of bigger importance than I thought.
It really depends on your driving style, the type of traffic and outside temperature. Edmunds did a real life test a few years ago and they got around 10% fuel saving - which is pretty significant.

I always have it ON as it does not bother me. The ASS in G01 is a great improvement over my previous BMW, it is much faster and quieter, it does not cause any delay or "lag", and it saves me money. In hot temperature, they way it slows the AC can be annoying. But in cooler temperature, the whole system is pretty seamless. So I am not sure why it is so much hated in this forum. It is a good feature both for your wallet and the environment.
