Transmission Question

I have a question regarding the difference between the standard automatic transmission compared to the Sport Automatic Transmission. I understand the SAT has the paddle shifters but am wondering about the actual shift points and software differences between the two transmissions. After searching this forum and other X series forums, answers appear to be mixed with some folks saying the software/shift points are the same while others say that you can code the standard transmission to activate the SAT software. The information on BMWCA and BMWUSA only speaks to the SAT having the paddles.

My 2018 has the old style transmission shifter and the SAT. The 2020 has the electronic shifter but the build sheet does not include the SAT. I have never driven them back to back to compare the two because they are 2600km apart. To me the 2020 seems slower to shift compared to the 2018.

Any forum members who can definitively answer this question?
