Seems like a pointless write up that IMO. There is no way that manufacturers are going to chase down all their customers and sue all the ones who have modified to maintained their own cars. One would assume under this 'law' that the article is proposing the manufacturers 'want'; this would also mean that independent garages would have to close too as they aren't main dealer?

Over here in Europe, the EU laid out that manufacturers had to honour their warranties, no matter where the car was serviced (so long as genuine parts were used). This was to give the consumer more freedom, so they didn't have to pay extortionate main dealer prices.
