Bought a BMW Performance intake for my E90 some years back. It shipped with a K&N oiled filter. Not saying better or worse than dry. Simply saying that BMW was shipping it from the factory for their performance intake at the time. For me at least, that ended any concern about oil film mucking up sensors and the like. Just sold the car last week at 133K miles. No issues related to the intake over the 14 years I had the car. Replaced the filter a few times with another K&N (too lazy to clean so just bought a new one).
