i agree. A few years ago, a friend invited a bunch of people to his bday dinner at a specific place. It was mixed with a few people I knew and others I didn't. They ordered appetizers for us and we just ordered out main meals and drinks. At the end of the meal I think he wanted to pay but his gf said something to him about it being expensive and that he should cover the bill etc.., so we all ended up splitting the bill. He should have stepped up and covered it since he invited us, etc..

It'd be different if a few of our friends decided to take him out for his bday and we all went to a place that everyone agreed upon. Then we'd cover his portion of the bill.
