The Fiat 500 Topolino (little mouse) played a major role in getting the Italian auto industry back on its feet after the devastation of World War II. The Topolino was actually introduced pre-war in 1937 but it was in the late 1940s and 1950s that sales took off.
The 500 was tiny; it had a 569cc engine of 13 hp, the B model increased output to 16 hp. The max speed flat-out was about 85 km/hr. Over 500,000 500 Topolinos were sold until 1955, when the Fiat 600 replaced it.
This is a 1948 500B Topolino Cabriolet. While it included seating for just two, I'd bet cash-strapped Italian families managed to cram the whole family in for special occasions!
