I had the car into an independent last week. They diagnosed the issue as a 'broken' air hose, which they replaced. Total cost £910. Part of this was an 'essential' software update, which added £200. The car is fine now, but I do feel I've been ripped off.
I've got the old hose, quite a large item, maybe 70mm diameter, and it wasn't actually split. It's made up in a few sections, and one had pulled away from the other. Would have been easily fixable with a jubilee clip, but of course garages just change parts these days, they're not engineers.
