Just have to add that, having been in San Antonio (60 miles from Austin) since 1988, we have only seen snow and ice three times in that time. It is not the usual winter condition here, although we do have days below freezing almost every year. However, the vast majority of the time it is in the 50's and 60's in the winter here. I have seen no need to change tires, just be careful on certain days and know that in a couple of days it will be back to normal. Just my $.02. YMMV.
