Focal iBus 20 Powered Sub (behind driver's seat!) vs. BavSound Ghost Subs

Forum,

I am weighing two options for my M4. My primary goal is to add low end, and I was wondering which of these two options is likely to add more bass:

Focal Integration IBus 20 Compact 75-watt powered 8" subwoofer

versus

Bavsound Ghost subs

With the Focal sub, I have found a shop that will fabricate steel brackets to 'sandwich' between the car seat and chassis, with out-rigger extensions that align with Focal subwoofer's mounts. I like this behind-seat idea since it should yield more bass than a sub in the M4's tightly sealed trunk - and I don't carry a passenger behind the driver's seat anyways.

I would think that the Focal setup will yield much more bass, especially since I would be retaining the two BMW under-seat woofers, but appreciate any thoughts on this setup. Thank you!

The rear seat back structure is acoustically transparent below about 60Hz....

Yup! I'm even having pretty good results crossing subs in the trunk at 80, and highpassing the under seat "woofers" at 80.

OP: Do note that even a sealed 10" in the trunk on moderate power is going to be a substantial upgrade and blow any under seat woofers out of the water, no comparison whatsoever.

With your stock amp, Bav's ghost subs will not get much out.

I have them on my Mini Cooper with HK sound, it wasn't that much of difference until I added Match UP 7BMW amp (OEM replacement plug & play amp). So if you're not going to add or replace your stock amp, you will get more out of Focal powered sub.

But JL's Microsub+ 8" setup would get you exact sound you want. It's much larger than Focal's but still slim enough and you get 250W RMS watts power out of them compare to 75 RMS watts.

Mini doesn't have MOST with HK. No match 7 for the M4.
