New gearbox
Hi
For the past 3 years I have leased my BMW X1 automatic x drive and it had never skipped a beat, up until the other day. I was having gearbox issues where by the car wasn’t changing through the gears as I accelerated. Took the car into my local bmw service department where they did some checks and determined that the car needed a new gearbox at a cost of over £10000. In April I extended my lease agreement at alphabet as my new car was delayed. My extension meant that my car is no longer within its 3 year warranty. The car has is 3 years old and barely covered 25000 miles. From that I understand it’s the 8 speed gearbox which I’d heard is meant to be pretty decent. Anyone had a similar issue with their car? Where do I stand in terms of who pays for the new gearbox. Obviously I’m reluctant to pay towards it as firstly you don’t expect to have to replace a gearbox at 25000 miles and secondly I’m not the owner of the car so feel as if it’s down to bmw and alphabet to resolve the issue. In the meantime I’m without a courtesy car and no idea of how this situation is going to play out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you Matt |

Surely if you are leasing, then it belongs to Alphabet and its their responsibility to sort it? They can't lease you a car that doesnt work - that must surely contravene all sorts of consumer laws!
