Delivery Date - Fact or Nonsense?
On November 9, 2015, I went to a dealership who sold me on the fact that he can get me the X1 (specified to my design) within one week. I get there, and the salesman says whoops, I made a mistake - it'll take three weeks.
I've asked the salesman to confirm the three week timeline over and over again, and he says yes - three weeks. Maybe a day or two more. However after reading these forums, and learning of the manufacturing delays, it seems more and more likely that this three week timeline is straight up nonsense. I asked for the VIN number to track the car, but no response yet. Any thoughts on how long it could legitimately take? I feel like I should just scrap this whole purchase, and go through another dealer who can get me the same car but in a different color (they have it on the lot, and can match my price). |

The only way he can get your car in 1 - 3 weeks is if he swaps with another dealership. It's not possible to place a custom order to the BMW factory in that short amount of time.

Sounds very very fishy. Maybe the CA doesn't know that the X1, unlike other X-vehicles, are NOT built in South Carolina. The X1 is built in Germany. So, no, they don't arrive 3-weeks after ordering.

Either he is getting you an already built car with exactly the same list of option that you want or he is a charlatan.
If your list of options aren't that long or complicated, there is a chance that he's selling you a stock car that's already in the US or is on its way. Don't know how it is in the US, but over here in the UK, larger dealerships normally order stock cars with most popular options already added. |

I was told last week by my dealer that the X1 I had ordered was being built in the USA, and that it was then shipped to Germany for checking before bing delivered to th UK.

It's roughly 3 months from order to delivery in the US for an X1, and some are taking longer due to production delays. X3, X4, X5, X6 are built in the US and orders for those are much quicker. Usually 4-6 weeks order to delivery.
