Gonna be hard to put a bigger engine in sideways.

I would bet that most of generation 1 X1 sales were with the smaller motor anyway.

My money is on a possible 4 cyl diesel as an upper model.

I usually like M Sport design over any non, but think base actually looks better. May be difference between sketch and real pics however

Still is an heavy Suv with high COG and no power gain. How this is suppose to be a replacement for the 3 Touring for North American market?

It would be good if you'd read beyond the manual. See how the front brake calipers are in front of the hub, not behind, like just about every single BMW ever? That doesn't help steering feel, already an F chassis weakness. And like I said elsewhere, awd is not the same when dealing with a transverse vs longitudinal motor.

There are good ways of doing fwd based awd, like the new Focus RS or the STi, but most Haldex based cars are rather lackluster to drive. It appears that BMW is using their own system, which bodes well, but as noted, proportions and simple stuff like caliper placement don't seem promising from a driving dynamics standpoint. But I'll wait to see some reviews on this longitudinal motored, fwd based, kinda awd thing.

It's not replacing the F31, it's replacing the E84. BMW USA is to blame for the F31 being a dud. No rwd option, no manual option, no six cylinder option. All things the ROW gets.

I'd also assume that the F48 will be 200-500 pounds lighter than the porky E84.

because soccer moms drive suv not wagon... its only 6" taller than the e90 and 3" shorter.. this is the same thing mercedes has done by introducing the GLA.. the germans are tricking the US market into liking wagons again.. this is the first step.. by making a jacked up wagon, people tell themselves its an SUV. I like it and cant wait to see it in person. i really hope the price is around 31,500 like the gen 1 x1 28i

Agreed. If the F31 had a 335 option with M Sport I would be at the dealer tomorrow.

Ha, my wife is very wagon averse and doesn't like me pointing out that her E84 is classified as a wagon for BMW sales and insurance purposes. I sort of wish this one had kept the lower roof profile that the E84 and GLA have, not the more SUV oriented look of the Q3.
