Ya, it's nice but the seats are way too small and round like a toilet seat. And it drives like shit. There is nothing BMW about the way it drives.

That's if you spec the base (MINI-like) interior in the X1. But spec Mocha leather, fineline wood and sports seats, and it's not just as comfortable as my F20 M135i, it looks as good, too. As to handling, IME the X1 handles and rides better than its class competitors (M-B, Audi, VW..)

That the problem. It's a bmw not a mini. I've been driving a mini for a little more than 2 years now. It's going to be my first and last fwd car that I own.

Mini sales sort of dictate that BMW will have to share their platforms to justify their existence.

Rather than just building a smaller, more authentic Mini, BMW is diluting both brands. Brilliant!

Evidence?

As an owner of 1+ yrs now, I find them very decent...on par with my M135i

I've driven a brand new X1 and the brakes were tooooo sensitive! A light press would be the equivalent of a 75% press in a 5 series

I think the X2 interior will be pretty much the same as X1 with maybe additions of new trim options. I think my X1 interior is simple yet modern. It does have some cheap plastic parts but are toward the bottom of the interior. I don't have much complaint about it.

I assume X2 will share brakes with the X1. As an owner of F48 X1 for over 1.5 years, I found the criticism of the brakes surprising. I drove my car on the autobahn and loved the strong brake feel. I definitely feel more confident in bringing my car to a stop than my 2012 F30 that I had.

I was skeptical of FWD-based X-Drive BMW, but I am pleasantly surprised that I like the handling of my X1 much more than the handling of F30, which I found too light and not enough road feel. Neither my F48 or F30 have sport package.

Having said that, I will say while F48 feels solid so far, I worry a little bit about the long-term reliability since I purchased the car. The car doesn't feel as well put together as my F30.

I miss the hydraulic steering of my E87 128i with sport package. It is still the most satisfying car by far that I have owned.

Hmm...have you compared "brand new 5 series", or any brand new car, for that matter? Brake rotors and pads on all new cars need to be bedded in, just as brand new ("green") tyres can be amazingly slippery.

Updated October 10, 2017:

The production X2 has now dropped virtually all of its camouflage, except for a few slivers on the front grille and tail lights.

This one looks a little homely due to the fact that it is a lesser spec model. Also that color, while perhaps looking good in sunlight (or maybe not), isn't doing the vehicle any favors here.

It would seem that a debut is imminent for the production X2, but I don't believe we know as of yet where or when that will happen. Certainly by the end of the 2017/2018 show circuit next spring.

Some will think the X2 looks better.. some will prefer the X1...it doesn't really cost them much to make a variant of the same platform.. so this isn't about making a vehicle that EVERYONE likes.. it's about making something that a diffefrent demographic group will appreciate for relatively small amount of risk as compared to an all new platform
