I still don't understand why this car is that much different to the Euro 1 series 5 door on jacked up suspension... that said I like the look. I drove the X1 and it was fine, but the 3 series is a much better car.

Kia lead the way in modern car design (yes seriously) and everyone keeps saying how BMW have lost their way in car design so what’s wrong with some Kia influence??

This all gets a little convoluted when you have ex-BMW designers leading design teams in Asia. So you've got Asian cars designed by Germans. Swedish cars bankrolled by China. German cars built in the U.S. and Mexico.
Welcome to supply chain globalization and mobile talent. Just the way of the world these days.

But yeah, that's pretty much what a modern crossover is - a hatchback with a lift kit. A lot of small CUVs share a platform with a hatchback. They are different enough to have separate markets with different types of buyers. Although they probably do get cross-shopped in some cases. |

For me it actually makes sense. The X1 is half pregnant, too big as a single person commuter and too small for haulage/family duties. The X2 looks better, goes better and is more tossable.
I am 41 (so like the little bit of added height over regular cars) and in need of a HP fix after years of sensible cars and my first though is the original X1 with the 35i engine, then tune it. But in a few years that's getting real long in the tooth so maybe this the answer. |

Aren’t Kia Korean? But I’m nitpicking now, I guess since very recently... mind you I remember the original (pre facelift) e90 being criticised for its Koreanesque tail light cluster!!
Every car manufacturer is influenced by another surely.... and Korean car design has only recently seen a huge improvement over its older rather naff designs, so yes obviously the German car makers are going to look at these rather pleasing new designs coming out of the orient!! And why not, as BMW design of recent years has been erratic wouldn’t you say!? |

Side profile looks the best but everything else seems awkward and overdone yet still underwhelming at the same time. Hate to be so critical but it's hard to overlook how non German this car looks. Any German bits remaining have been overpowered by a very confused look of what seems to be a German interpretation of Asian design.
