Standard tyres
I collect My X1 on Monday and it comes with standard tyres. I went with non run flats as my research said they are more comfortable and make a little less noise. My question is does anyone know what tyres are standard figment

Interesting question, but how long is a piece of string?
From the ones I've seen in the dealer showrooms, they can be any of several brands, including Bridgestone, Pirelli, Michelin, Continental etc etc..... Just what arrives on the production line I think. Unless someone can tell me otherwise! |

My UK X1 was built back in May/June 2016, and it came with 18" non-RFT Bridgestone Turanza T001 tyres. They're quiet on a good road, not so quiet on rougher roads. They've done about 15,000 miles and are starting to look a little worn, only a few mm's from the top of the wear marker...

I've searched for UK market All Season (A/S) tyres for size 225/50x18 and the ones that come up all appear to be RFT so, apparently, not much help for X1s in the UK - at least for now!

So far I think the P7s ride okay so far. I've had older generation rfts that were horrible on a e90 328 and MINI Cooper S. |

I'm thinking, probably a little late in the day, that I ought to swap the front and rears as they are wearing quite a bit faster at the front. I'm assuming that the TPMS monitoring valves don't mind which corner of the car they are on? Can anyone confirm that it's no issue to rotate front and back wheels (apart from correcting the pressures)? Thanks!

Without letting us know the model variant (M-sport, Sport, X-Line, etc) and wheel size, that's pretty difficult to answer.

When I changed from the standard 225 width wheels on my 2 litre petrol X line to the smaller 205 winter wheels and tyres the TPS took several miles to re-register the new pressures etc. This was about 40 minutes. I guess it will be the same when I revert to the standard wheels and tyres.

Not true for 2017's. We had the option of ordering with or w/o RFT's. If you get non-RFT's, you get a spare and jack kit. We ended up with one off the lot that had RFT's but the option was there if we ordered new.

Collected my X1 yesterday (28 March) and it came with the same tyres as yours. I'd have probably chosen the Pirelli tyres if I had the choice, but will see how these perform. My Q3 had Bridgestone Dueller H/P Sport (17") and I was pleasantly surprised by the way they wore and quietness compared to previous experience with Bridgestone tyres on A4s.
So far as initial impressions of the X1, my wife drove it today and said she was 'rather impressed by the car all round' - the first time I've heard her say that about one of our cars other than the smaller Clios and Fiat 650 DeVille she drove, mainly for shopping and the school run . |

Some genaral INFO:
-BMW only put on tyres that are tested by them and approved. -within that envelop there are, of course, some differencies: e.g. Michelins are most durable, etc. -the US - people afraid of being stuck in "bad" areas - forced manufacturers to develop RFT:s. Most manufacturers have RFT:s only in the US. Unfortunately some manufacturers, incl. BMW, jumped on the bandwagon and introduced RFT:s also in Europe. What pissed me off, when I bought my X4 with 20" tyres, was that I could not choose non-RFT:s, while the Germans could. RFT:s have been extensively discussed on X3/X4 forum, and people tend to switch to non-RFT:s and include 12V compressor and slime. All season tires are a US phenomena, which I will not comment. |

I looked at the tire rack ratings for the P7 non run flats...which gave it very poor wet performance...and I confirmed that during the first hard rain...was like driving on ice....switched to Conti DWS-06 (Non run flats which I consider useless...if you drive on em flat most tire shops/dealers will demand you buy a new tire..plus you can only drive 50 miles flat...so what happens if you're 150 miles from a tire shop?)...

So today my wife drove over something that has punched a hole through the rear tyre; it's unrepairable... They are at least fairly worn after 2 years, 15k miles, 4mm left at the front and 5-6mm at the back, so now might be a good time to look at replacing them.
They are Bridgestone Turanza T001 non-RFT at the moment. Looking at local tyre places online there isn't a huge amount of choice in the 225/50/18 size... I'm thinking about switching to Pirelli P-Zeros as they claim to be lower noise, which would be very welcome. Has anyone got any experience of these tyres in terms of noise, wear rates etc? There's a Continental one available, the Pirelli P7 and of course the Bridgestones. I'd appreciate any input, particularly UK-focused, on the limited options. Thanks in advance! |
