Just passing this on:
My X1 started making a metallic clanging noise while driving. I first thought it was in the dashboard area. I removed the center speaker grill and the speaker was okay. Upon test driving again I thought it might be coming from the firewall. I removed the plastic covering the firewall/battery. After touching and pulling I found the crossbar on the left side was loose. The nut on the firewall bolt had completely backed out and was gone. Replaced the nut with a locking nut (left and right side). Easy fix, l just wanted to pass It on. Also how to remove center speaker grill without damaging the plastic cover. The clips are on the front and sides (NOT the back!). If you try to pry the back (closest to windshield) you could easily break the plastic. Just gently lift the front and side edges by the clips and they come loose. Then lift the cover by the front and it slides out from the back.
