BMW X2 (F39) prototype breaks cover!

BIMMERPOST NEWS
BMW X2 (F39) prototype breaks cover

Updated October 10, 2017:

The production X2 has now dropped virtually all of its camouflage, except for a few slivers on the front grille and tail lights.

Updated August 9, 2017:

BMW has released official "camouflaged" images of the production X2.

Updated July 12, 2017:

We have added more looks at the X2, showing two different front bumper designs - one resembling the recently revealed patent design, and the other a sportier version, most likely representing two different levels of X2 models. We also finally get the first look at the X2's interior.

Updated June 6, 2017:

The X2 prototype has finally revealed more of its front end, showing a more aggressive look than expected. Revealed are large air intakes featuring strong angled lines to mimic the lines of the Concept X2's front bumper (compare images below). We like that BMW is taking a bold approach to its design! See the new images below.

Updated April 20, 2017:

The BMW X2 has now taken to the Nurburgring for high performance testing (photos below).

Based on our updated BMW model pipeline thread, the F39 X2 will come to the US in sDrive28i, xDrive28i, and xDrive M35i models. The X2 will also receive some interesting options not available on the X1: 19" RFT or 20" non-RFT with M Sport, adaptive suspension (likely as a part of M Sport), Galvanic Gold paint, and Guidance Package.

Updated December 12, 2016:

The X2 prototype has now been spotted undergoing cold weather / winter testing.

Updated November 15, 2016:

Following the reveal of the BMW X2 Concept, the pre-production prototype has now dropped some camouflage. The latest sighting reveals the new grille design (narrower on top than bottom) first previewed on the X2 Concept.

Updated August 15, 2016:

According to Autocar, BMW officials have revealed that the 2017 BMW X2 will be previewed as a concept car at the Paris motor show in late September and sales will begin in the second half of 2017.

Based on our updated BMW model pipeline thread, the F39 X2 will come to the US in sDrive28i, xDrive28i, and xDrive M35i models.

Updated November 6, 2015 with new prototype, in different color and wheels.

The BMW M2 (F39) prototype has been spotted for the first time! The X2 will ride on the X1's UKL platform and will provide a coupe-like alternative to the new X1 (F48) just as the X4 does for the X3 and the X6 does for the X5, which means the X2 will also share an interior with the new X1.

The prototype shows a very low and wide shape - the sportiest shape yet of all of BMW's coupe-styled CUV, and the X2's look is aimed squarely at the Range Rover Evoque with its low roof, high doorline and short overhangs.

Expect the X2 to be offered in the same engine range as the X1 (3 and 4 cylinder models) and in either FWD or xDrive AWD.

It will be produced alongside the new X1 at BMW's Regensburg factory in Germany. The production version is expected to make its debut at the 2017 IAA show in Frankfurt.

This vehicle is actually smaller than it looks, but appearances can be deceptive to what you think it may be. Yes it is based upon the UKL architecture.
It is completely intelligent to suggest that cars now go the same direction as technology and lifestyle and evolve. This is an entirely new concept for an urban crossover the largest segment in the industry for sales and further growth.

I am excited because once the mainstay of the luxury or premium segment with such niche vehicles they are being brought to the entry and mid-level customer band so we provide further Xcitement and innovation to the segment and customer responsible for the growth of such vehicles.

The new car will launch in production form at the 2017 IAA but we will see it a lot sooner soon enough. The next BMW X3 ushers in the next design phase for BMW X vehicles as soft lines make way for hard edges and angular features.
BMW X design will evolve from the regular car portfolio with its own unique design character bordering on modern, sporty and futuristic.

It all part of the growth of the segment and the evolving character of a BMW SAV which has not only progressed to Sport Activity Coupes. But soon Extended wheelbase seven seat options as well as Urban city crossovers. Allowing a BMW X model in each segment with alternative choice between standard , practical and sport.

Last I checked, BMW was in business to make money. Not perpetuate dogma held by enthusiasts with limited thinking for the future of vehicle options and segments.

Well BMW can't prosper with just the old 3, 5, 6, and 7 series. As stated above the crossover segment is one the largest markets. All manufacturers have to adapt to the markets demands at some point. You have to look at it this way; BMW is building a lineup to suit everyone's needs.

Oh that's not good design ! I hope the new X3 is far far better then this. Looks a bit like something a South Korean brand would make

As a compact urban driver it does look very interesting and also for those who need an additional daily beater (which the X1 fills in nicely too)!

Could be nice but there is already the X1 in that segment. Seems like BMW is trying to fill in every hole it can find. While that may seem like a good idea, it actually isn't. GM tried this strategy in the late 90s and we all know what they went through.

Been looking forward to the X2 for a while.
And initially i was affraid that BMW would play safe with this model.
I guess not, this looks very promising!
Look how happy the driver looks behind the wheel also.
I really like the Evouqe, and i think the X2 can do wonderes for BMW, If theyr executing it correct.
A promising start!

I wish BMW would stop with all these X vehicles. X1, X3, X5 is more than enough in my opinion.

I hope it looks nothing like that monstrosity in that photo above!

You can never please everyone. When BMW comes out with a new model, people criticize because they're bastardizing the brand. But when BMW doesn't or comes out with one late, it's the same s--t. If BMW came out with a CLA competitor before Mercedes actually launched the CLA, everyone here would be crying that it has no purpose, if you want 4 doors, buy the 3-Series. Now that the CLA has been successful for Mercedes and forcing BMW to address this segment, everyone is complaining that BMW was too slow to release one.

No one here works for BMW and no one here has done in-depth market research so no one here can criticize what will and what won't work. As far as all these new models go, they have all met or surpassed BMW's expectations. Don't mix sales with expectations as a metric for success.
