It's simple if it drives FWD even in X drive don't buy it. If UKL is pants (which it is likely it won't be knowing BM) and people don't buy it BMW will be forced to reconsider

I really like the overall shape and body but died a little inside when I read FWD. BMW needs to expand their Mini line and keep the FWD cars there and out of the BMW family.

I like it!
This and the X4 have been worthwhile enhancements by their design team for sure...

It kind of looks like the old Saturn FWD crossover - wasn't it called "Vue" or something like that? I drove a current generation X1 rwd and thought it handled nicely. It is based on the E90, so this was not a big surprise.
We considered one for my wife, but it hadn't hit the market yet when we were ready to upgrade. She drove it when I had the loaner and declared that she liked her A3 TDI better. It's not a crossover, but it does have a more compact footprint, which is what she liked. The point is that most of the vehicles in this size/class are FWD based with AWD available in some. Many of the drivers really don't know/care about FWD vs. RWD, so I guess BMW figured that for their target demographic it would work. Enthusiasts may not like it as much, but this is the same thinking behind no manual transmission option for 3 Series wagons, convertibles, etc.

My rule of thumb was take 1 off the first digit in the speedometer and that's your real speed. so 75 is 7-1 (6) so 75-6=69 gps. I ended up buying an ultragauge and use that for monitoring my speed, though it's about .5mph lower than gps speed. For $70 you get lots of other useful goodies, like a more accurate oil temp as on the 35 it's still not accurate either. And I too think the 2016 is looking too much like the Matrix. I own a 2003 and like crossovers, but frankly my friends and I called it the 'mini-mini-van' for a reason. I'd likely get a 3GT before the 2016 X1 IMO. Looks and the lack of being rear wheel platform. |

The new generation of BMW X1
News E84 BMW X1 SUV has been updated over a year ago. This means that the model will hold on the line for one and half to two years. The new generation of the crossover is being tested, but not in a hurry to get rid of camouflage tape. Obviously auto design is borrowed from the new BMW X5, which is not surprising, but the technical part of the SUV can hide a lot of surprises. Classic layout BMW X1 will change in favor of the front-drive. UKL platform will be the basis of the first series of BMW cars and the new MINI generation. Technically, the BMW X1 itself will be very close to the second generation car MINI Countryman. Changing the type of drive cars mean transverse position of the power unit, hence BMW X1 2015 model year will be equipped with a maximum of four-cylinder engines, decent power characteristics which help to achieve the turbo. The base engine will be the same three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters. In addition to BMW's promise and hybrid versions, and with the ability to charge from a household power source in which the motor will drive the wheels on the front axle and on the rear of gasoline. Compared to the current generation of X1, the new version will increase in length and wheelbase. Unification of the first series of BMW and MINI model range will enable the automaker largely to save on development and production. However, the Germans were assured that the competition between the cars will not. http://www.rubmw.ru/news/x1seriya/e8...olenie-bmw-x1/ |

They are also talking about the next gen X1 model (front wheel drive) and a X1M (all wheel drive standard; to compete with the Audi RS Q3) with 2L turbo and 320HP. Der Allradantrieb ist Serie in Verbindung mit den stärksten Vierzylindern und im X1M, der mit seinem hoch aufgeladenen und 320 PS starken Zweiliter-Motor den Audi RS Q3 verblasen soll.
